The Pond Ice Arena

The Pond Ice Arena is proposed to be located in the southeast corner of the retail/office/apartment complex located south of Overland Road and east of Eagle Road. The location is directly north of the future high school site.

The facility will be used for ice hockey training, recreational hockey and skating and for ice related exhibitions. One ice sheet will conform to Olympic standards with an approximate seating capacity of 1,080. The second will conform to narrower National Hockey League standards with seating for 350. Queuing areas will be used for additional seating during special events. Ancillary uses include 10 locker rooms, a skate rental/changing area, operations offices, pro shop, fitness center and restaurant/lounge. Private box seating will be provided at the restaurant and offices overlooking the Olympic rink.

The structure is being constructed with the rinks, equipment rooms, lockers and rental/changing area located approximately 16 feet below grade. The entries, offices, pro shop, fitness center and restaurant are located at grade on the main level. Recessing the main portion of the structure keeps the height of the buildings main ridge at approximately 24 feet, in scale with the adjacent residential and office/retail uses.

The main entry has a two story glazed element wrapped with a two level entry canopy and trellis. Steel framing, signage and banners are used to enhance the festive sports theme of the facility. The glazing encompasses the fitness center on the main level. A mezzanine above the will be used for storage and the central core mechanical equipment. The central core will have an open ceiling plan over the pro shop, offices and circulation/queuing spaces. A central stair and elevator is used to access the lower level.

The exterior wall will have undulating landscaped berms, graphics and variations in color and texture to break up the length of the façade. The exterior materials are textured insulated panels and aluminum storefront glazing for the walls, metal fascia, standing seam roof system and glazed skylights. The color scheme consists of two-tone panels in a light terra cotta/tan color with dark blue fascia and trim. The steel structure and tellis will be painted in a complimentary blue/gray color. The storefront glazing will be blue-silver tinted mounted in mill-finish aluminum framing. The roof will be a light blue/gray color.

Building and site lighting will conform to the overall development standards. Lighting on the south and east sides’ will be low level directed to fall within our property limits. Maintenance, delivery and trash areas are located on the south side out of view. Parking will be shared with the rest of the office/retail complex. Pedestrian access will be provided to the school site and adjacent residential areas.
